Introducing “Iron Men Afloat” – A New Series on the Civil War Navy

Good morning!

I am sure many of you noticed that yesterday we posted a two-part series on the fall of New Orleans (April 25th, 1862). Part 1: “The Men and The Skirmish” lived here on The Front Line while Part 2: “Facing the Forts: The West Gulf Blockading Squadron” was posted on The Civil War Navy Sesquicentennial blog. This multi-part series marked the beginning of a new joint venture between The Civil War Monitor and The Civil War Navy Sesquicentennial entitled “Iron Men Afloat.” This ambitious series of cross posts will highlight key battles and topics in Civil War Navy history; for each topic covered, the Monitor will discuss the men (i.e. living component) involved while the CWN 150 blog will focus on the machines and technology used. Together we hope to bring you insightful and engaging pieces while exposing you to a wide array of naval scholars.

We hope you enjoy! Our second “Iron Men Afloat” series will go live next month with the anniversary of Drewry’s Bluff (May 15th).

Cheers!
