Our interview with Glenn Brasher, Instructor of History at the University of Alabama and author of The Peninsula Campaign & the Necessity of Emancipation: African Americans & the Fight for Freedom, now out with UNC Press. Dr. Brasher provides a fresh account of the Peninsula Campaign as part of the larger emancipation narrative, detailing the role of African Americans in this political fight well before the battle of Antietam. He also discusses the "Black Confederate" myth and two books that every Civil War student needs to read.
