Featured Event: The Battle of Hampton Roads Weekend 2012, March 9-11 in Newport News, Virginia. The Mariners' Museum marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Hampton Roads in grand style, with a weekend of activities:

The Civil War Navy Conference features award-winning authors Harold Holzer and Craig Symonds, as well our very own Contributing Editor, Laura June Davis. The two full days of sessions are focused on Civil War Naval history, technology, literature, art, and popular culture.

Student Living History Day brings Civil War history to life with educational and entertaining activities focused on the famed battle between the ironclads USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia.
March 10 & 11, 2012
Weekend family activities are highlighted by the introduction of Ironclad BattleQuest, a fun, interactive family adventure game that takes you through indoor and outdoor activities.

March 6th @6pm: National Register and Architectural Survey Historian Bethany Canfield will share stories about some of the major Civil War battles in West Virginia @ the Archives and History Library at the Culture Center at the State Capitol Complex (Charleston, WV)
March 6th @6:30 pm: Brunswick Civil War Round Table will feature special guest speaker Marvin Nicholson and his presentation of "The African American Experience in the Civil War Era" @ Trinity United Methodist Church (Southport, NC).

March 8th @7pm: The Bath County Public Library will present Mr. Russ Morrison, speaking on the Battle of Hampton Roads (Rockbridge Region, VA).
March 8th @7pm: "Confederate Blockade of the Potomac" @ the Old Manassas Courthouse (Manassas, VA).
March 9th and 10th: Battle of New Bern 150th Anniversary and “Thunder in the East: The Civil War in Eastern North Carolina,” featuring Civil War historians Ed Bearrs and Mark Bradley, and Hari Jones, curator of the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum in Washington, D.C. Presented by Tryon Palace and the New Bern Historical Society (New Bern, NC).
March 9th-11th: Anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Pea Ridge @ the Pea Ridge National Military Park (Bentonville, AR). Living history (10:30 am, free) and concert (7 pm) in Bentonville Friday. Living history camps, demonstrations and exhibits on Saturday and Sunday. Luminary Saturday evening 6-8 pm.
March 10th @9am-4pm: “Brother vs. Brother – Sesquicentennial of the Civil War” @ the Cherokee Heritage Center Museum (Tahlequah, OK).
March 10th @11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm: "The Mystery of the H.L. Hunley" @ the South Carolina State Museum (Columbia, SC).
March 10th @9am-5pm: "Civil War Women at City Point" @ the City Point unit-Petersburg National Battlefield (Petersburg, VA).

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: March 23-24, 2012 - Kennesaw, Ga. 9th Annual Symposium on New Interpretations of the Civil War: '1862: The Path to Freedom.' The Civil War Center at Kennesaw State University presents renowned Civil War historians Ken Noe, Wiley Sword, Jeff Wert, and Brian Wills on Saturday, March 23 at 9:00 a.m. The various lectures will focus on events from 1862. An opening reception will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at the Southern Museum in Kennesaw. Please plan to attend these special events – free admission, and free parking available for Saturday's program in Kennesaw State's West Parking Deck, located on Campus Loop Drive. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: On Friday, April 27, 2012, from 8:30am-4:00pm, the University of Maryland Libraries' Special Collections will be hosting a symposium entitled "Women and the Civil War in Maryland." We invite the University of Maryland community and the general public to join us for a day of scholarly presentations featuring keynote speaker and noted historian, Thavolia Glymph. The event will be held in Nonprint Media Services (Room J) & the Maryland Room Gallery of Hornbake Library North at the University of Maryland, College Park.
