February 7th @6pm: Zeiterion Book Club discusses Lincoln at Cooper Union by Harold Holzer @ Zeiterion Penler Space (New Bedford, MA).

February 12th @ 3pm: “Living History: Ruth and Abby, the 1850’s Ladies Discuss the Lincoln Douglas Debates” @ the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitor Center (MA).

February 12th @ 6:30pm: “DISCUSSION - Lincoln the Communicator” led by David Prentiss and George Vafiadis @ the Zeiterion Penler Space (New Bedford, MA).

February 12th @ 8pm: “The Rivalry,” an LA Theatre Works’ National Tour performance @ the Zeiterion Theatre (New Bedford, MA). LA Theatre Works production of The Rivalry is a riveting depiction of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, using dialogue from the original debate transcripts to bring to life the fierce competition between the future President and the incumbent Senator as they tackled the day's most controversial issues. TICKETS: $30. Following the performance, there will be a discussion with the cast.

February 8th @5:30pm: "Of Wards and War": The Importance of Good (and Bad) Medical Care in the American Civil War by Margaret Humphreys, MD, PhD, Duke University @ The New York Academy of Medicine (NY, NY).

February 8th @7:30pm: Award-winning New Jersey historian Joseph G. Bilby will speak about New Jersey’s black Civil War soldiers @ the Cranford Community Center (NJ). His lecture will be based on his recently published book, Freedom to All: New Jersey’s African-American Civil War Soldiers.

February 9th @2pm: Opening of an exhibit to commemorate Union County’s role in the Civil War of 1861-65 @ the Union County Courthouse (Elizabeth, NJ).

February 9th @7pm: "A Hands-On History of the Gosport Navy Yard in the Civil War" @ the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum (Portsmouth, VA).

February 9th @7pm: "Longstreet's Attack and the Struggle for Chinn Ridge" @ the Old Manassas Courthouse (Manassas, VA).

February 9th–12th:"Abraham Lincoln and the Indians," a series of special programs for all ages @ the Oklahoma History Center (Oklahoma City, OK).

February 10th-12th: "Civil War Heritage Days" @ Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State park (Key West, FL).

February 10th-February 16th: Fort Donelson National Battlefield’s Civil War Sesquicentennial featuring a variety of encampments, living history programs, films, author visits and more (TN).  

February 11th @10am-4pm: Commemoration of the 1862 Battle at Elizabeth City, including living history, displays, music and more @ the Civil War Living History Day @ the Museum of the Albemarle (Elizabeth City, NC).

February 11th @10:30am: “Sweetheart’s Ball – Love Conquers All,” a Civil War Sesquicentennial event in the Walker Community Room @ the Fayetteville Public Library (NC).

February 11th @10:30am and 2pm: "Slavery and Freedom at Appomattox Plantation," a ranger-led tour of the Grant's Headquarters Unit of the Petersburg National Battlefield (VA).

February 11th @1-4pm: "Learn to make Civil War-era valentines" @ the Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park (VA).

February 11th @1:30 pm: "'I Dread Thought of the Place': Antietam" @ the Gettysburg National Military Park visitor center (PA).

February 11th @2pm: "The Dawn of Microbiology and the American Civil War" @ the National Museum of Civil War Medicine (Frederick, MD).

February 11th @2pm: "Freedom at a Terrible Price," the story of slaves enlisting in the Union army, @ the Audubon Museum (Henderson, TN).

February 11th @3pm: "NC African Americans" @ the North Carolina Maritime Museum (Beaufort, NC).

February 11th @6pm: "Where the South Lost the War: An Analysis of the Fort Henry-Fort Donelson Campaign" @ the Fort Donelson National Battlefield (TN). Dover.

February 11th-12th: The Abraham Lincoln Association will celebrate the 16th president’s 203rd birthday in February with two events (Springfield, IL). On Saturday, keynote speaker James Oakes will give a talk entitled, “The Emancipation Proclamation: Myths and Realities” and the dinner speaker will be U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). On Sunday, there will be a symposium luncheon.

February 11th-12th: Symposium, "Lincoln Wages War, 1861-1862" held at several sites in Springfield (IL).

February 11th-12th: Lincoln birthday observance in Vandalia (IL). Special exhibit at the Fayette County Museum both days. Civil War ball Saturday evening and lecture, "Lincoln's Rebel Relatives," @ the Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site (IL).

February 12th @2pm: "Lawrence: Survivors of Quantrill's Raid" @ the Constitution Hall State Historic Site (Lecompton, KS).

February 12th @2pm: “Discovering Black Civil War Veterans and Their Widows in 1890 Camden” with Dr. James E. Johnson (Camden County Historical Society, NJ).

February 12th @1:30pm: "Gettysburg: The Pipe Creek Line" @ the Gettysburg National Military Park visitor center (PA).

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: March 23-24, 2012 - Kennesaw, Ga. 9th Annual Symposium on New Interpretations of the Civil War: '1862: The Path to Freedom.' The Civil War Center at Kennesaw State University presents renowned Civil War historians Ken Noe, Wiley Sword, Jeff Wert, and Brian Wills on Saturday, March 23 at 9:00 a.m. The various lectures will focus on events from 1862. An opening reception will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at the Southern Museum in Kennesaw. Please plan to attend these special events – free admission, and free parking available for Saturday's program in Kennesaw State's West Parking Deck, located on Campus Loop Drive.
